Everyone has that cocktail they can pull out for friends and family, a twist on a classic they're known for. For Rick, that was the Prickly Pear Margarita: 2oz Tequila, 1oz Cointreau, 1oz prickly pear cactus puree, and 1/2oz fresh lime juice. So when it came time for the second iteration of our fruited Berliner Weisse series the decision was easy: A light, tart version of this cocktail, featuring real prickly pear cactus and lime.

What You’ll Love About It

This classic low-alc sour sweet wheat beer is an artful fusion of prickly pear, tart lime, and effervescent orange. Just tart enough to notice it and subtly sweet from the prickly pear. And at 3.8% it's light enough to enjoy any time of day.

How It's Made

We mash malted barley and wheat, then hit it with locally sourced lactobacillus in the fermenter. Once it's as tart as we want we ferment it out before letting it rest on prickly pear and lime.

Why Is It Called Painted Lake?

Named after the lake that was paddled and painted by artist Tom Thomson before his mysterious drowning in 1917.

How To Enjoy It

At 5-8° Celsius as often as you want.

Did You Know?

The idea for this beer came from a cocktail one of our founders would make for friends - a margarita using prickly pear cactus puree from his garden.
